A 22-year U.S. Coast Guard veteran, still serving in the Coast Guard Reserve: Jamie has led a ship at sea, conducted hundreds of search and rescue missions where people’s lives were on the line, and coordinated major disaster response efforts from the Deepwater Horizon spill to some of the worst hurricanes in U.S. history

A proud, former 4-H kid from a small agricultural community: The son of a public school teacher and an agricultural scientist, Jamie raised livestock, grew vegetables for the county fair, and worked his way through summers in high school — helping his parents on the farm and laying tile as an apprentice tilesetter. Jamie has earned every ounce of what he has achieved, paying for his education through a combination of loans, financial aid, the Post-9/11 GI Bill, and a graduate school fellowship from the Environmental Protection Agency.

A nationally-certified incident commander and disaster responder: Trusted by governors and Federal leaders from across the political spectrum, Jamie has helped communities here in Central Oregon and across the country respond to wildfires, oil spills, and environmental emergencies— helping people at their most vulnerable and holding polluters accountable

An MIT-trained climate scientist who has focused on practical solutions for conservation, land use, drought and climate change: As the owner of a small consulting business, Jamie puts his training to work helping communities, tribes and private companies from Sisters to Utqiagvik, Alaska, prepare for the many effects of climate change while managing growth in a sustainable way

A military diplomat: From 2022–2024, Jamie served as the U.S. Senior Defense Official and Defense Attaché for the Eastern Caribbean, where he forged international relationships in the developing world while advising two U.S. ambassadors and representing the President to seven foreign governments

A civic volunteer, with past service on multiple Bend city committees and a continuing role as board secretary for Meissner Nordic. Jamie’s family ties to rural Oregon date back to 1934, when his great-grandmother piled his grandfather into the back of a Model T and drove cross country to start a new life here.

A dad, husband, and rescue dog owner — and a regular on Strava as a skier, cyclist, and runner.
